Health Economist (Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville, FL)

In collaboration with Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL, the Health Economist will be a highly flexible, collaborative and innovative individual, committed to provide the best possible service to our customer and other stakeholders. The Health Economist will actively involve all stakeholders, both from Siemens Healthineers and Mayo Clinic in the design and implementation of economics and outcomes analyses, health economics and outcomes research studies and publications. The incumbent will undertake a range of analytical and modeling activities that will advance health economics & outcomes research (HEOR) objectives, and identifying the best methods based on clinical, operational and research goals and available resources for Healthineers and Mayo Clinic, Jacksonville FL. The Health Economist will publish the research results in peer-reviewed journals when applicable.

The primary location for this position is Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida.

The primary responsibilities of this role are:

• Lead hospital and department level database analysis projects focused on efficiency and outcomes and use those projects to develop recommendations or insights.    

• Lead large, complex quantitative modeling projects including cost-effectiveness, budget impact, cost-comparison, cost consequence and hospital-based health technology assessment (HTA) models.

• Development of analytic insights and models using various hospital databases and associative linkages. 

• Implement programming of high complexity models, using various modeling applications (Microsoft Excel, R, TreeAge, Python, WinBUGS).

• Conduct quality control checks on analytical projects and model calculations; identify issues with model predictions and recommend solutions.

• Conduct targeted literature reviews, systematic literature reviews, and meta-analyses.

• Research, prepare, and coordinate scientific deliverables, including high-quality publications and abstracts for medical/scientific conferences resulting in oral, electronic, and poster presentations.

• Contribute to best practices for the team as it relates to economic evaluations, model development and validation, data organization and programming standards.

• Keep apprised of technical developments in the field and share best practices.

• Manage projects with minimal supervision and coordinate production of deliverables.

• Build relationships in research collaborations with health economists, physicians, research, operations, and clinical staff, and mentor junior staff.

Requirements & Capabilities:

• Relevant research experience and at least 3 years (with PhD), preferably experienced working with hospitals, academic institutions, or medical devices and diagnostics.

• Track record of hospital data analytics, HEOR modeling and outcomes publications in peer-reviewed journals.

 • Experience with hospital data sources (electronic health records) and databases (radiology, laboratory etc.) for analysis and development of analytic dashboards or models.  

• Understanding of simulation methods (Markov models, discrete-event simulation, etc.), optimization (linear, non-linear, stochastic), survival/mortality analysis, and statistical modeling (logistic, ordinal, regressions, etc).

• Demonstrated analytical and creative problem solving.

• Ability to manage and proactively identify prioritized tasks for multiple concurrent projects.

• Strong written and spoken communication skills and experience developing interpersonal relationships with internal and external stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to make effective decisions independently and to work in a fast-paced matrix environment with minimal supervision.

• Demonstrated ability to engage, influence and develop customer/partner strategies.

• Knowledge of Siemens Healthineers solution & product landscape is preferred.
